Before you flash, check whether you can undo it
The worst outcome of flashing a Xiaomi is not a device that fails to boot. It is a device nobody can ever repair. There are only two ways to get there, and both are avoidable — but only before you flash. This is not a how-to. It is the check you run first.

Regions
Xiaomi ships different firmware per market, and what you lose by leaving your region's build differs by country — carrier VoLTE profiles and band tables everywhere, FeliCa on Japanese units, extra account-binding on mainland-China units. Devices bought abroad and used on a domestic network are the ones most likely to lose something quietly.
Local law also differs. Importing or operating a device without your country's radio-equipment certification may be an offence where you live. Check before you buy, not after you flash.
